Actually, WordPress uses temporary (tmp) folder to store uploads temporarily. This is similar to any other web hosting server.

This error is thrown by PHP when its unable to locate temporary folder. This can happen if server administrator forgot to set up temporary directory to your account; or in any case you delete accidentally directory or file.

Login to your cPanel or hosting account, go to: File Manager → Public_html
Create a folder with name tmp at and set attribute permissions to 777
On the same location create text file with name php.ini
In php.ini copy and past this path upload_tmp_dir=/home/username/public_html/tmp/
In the path above, change username to your login account name


You need to create php.ini file by simply open notepad, add the following string of code into the file, save and close at the same root folder location.
